The Killer Isn't Adam

The Killer Isn't ADAM Clues

For your reference, here is the full list of clues from The Killer Isn't ADAM. Where people have asked me about a clue, I have included clarifications here.

When working through the book you may find it helpful to "cross out" names that you have ruled out. This does not affect other clues in the book. For example, Clue 11 refers to the total number of names starting with an "M", even if you have crossed some of them out.

Clue 1

The killer’s name is longer than three letters.

Clue 2

The killer’s name does not start with an S.

Clue 3

The killer’s name contains at least two vowels.

Only the standard vowels A, E, I, O and U count as vowels for this clue. The letter Y does not count as a vowel for this clue.

The vowels don't have to be different, for example Renee and Sara both have at least two vowels, they just happen to be the same.

Clue 4

The killer is on a page with a repeated name.

A page only has a repeated name if the exact same spelling appears at least twice on that page. The names do not need to appear next to each other. Alternate spellings (for example Kylie and Kylee) do not count as a repeated name.

Clue 5

The killer’s name doesn’t contain a consecutive repeated letter (e.g. Penny or Bobby).

Repeated vowels also count for this clue, e.g. Kathleen.

Clue 6

The killer’s page is between Anna’s page and Zack’s page.

There is only one Anna and one Zack in the book. Those names will be written exactly as Anna and Zack, variants like Zackary do not count.

Clue 7

The killer’s name is not six letters long.

This clue only applies to names that are exactly six letters long. Names that are seven, eight, or more letters long cannot be ruled out by this clue.

Clue 8

The letters x, y and z are not in the killer’s name.

Clue 9

There is a three-letter name no more than ten names away from the killer.

This clue refers to names read in usual reading order left-to-right. For example, in the below image all the names that are within ten names of Ivy are highlighted.

If the three-letter name is near the start or end of a page then the people within ten names may be on the previous or next page, according to the usual reading order.

Clue 10

The first name on the killer’s page shares at least one letter with the killer.

For example, if the first name on a page is Alicia, the name Robyn on the same page cannot be the killer, since they have no letters in common.

Clue 11

The killer’s page contains less than three names that start with M.

This includes duplicates. For example, if the name Mason appears three times on a page, that page cannot contain the killer.

Clue 12

There is a Kardashian within four pages of the killer.

Only the exact spellings of the provided names count for this clue.

For example, if you think the killer is on page 124, there must be a Kardashian on at least one of pages 120, 121, 122, 123, 124, 125, 126, 127 or 128.

Clue 13

The killer is not on a page that has an even number of names.

Duplicates are included in this count. This is just about the total number of names written on a page, not including the book title.

Clue 14

The page facing opposite to the killer’s page contains the first name of a President of the USA.

Only the exact spellings of the provided names count for this clue.

Clue 15

The killer appears in a chapter with a place in its name.

This clue refers to the chapter title.

For the purposes of this clue, place can mean a town or city (for example Liverpool) or a more general place (for example a bedroom or an old windmill).

Clue 16

The killer’s page is no more than one page away from Sasha.

Clue 17

The chapter containing the killer also contains all four Beatles.

Only the exact spellings of the provided names count for this clue.

There can be more than one chapter that contains all four Beatles.

The Eighteenth Clue

There are only 17 clues in ADAM's list, but there is another sentence in the book that has the same format as the above 17 clues. The eighteenth clue will only be relevant when you have narrowed down to the last two remaining suspects. If you want to be spoiled, click the redacted part of Clue 18 below to reveal it.
